The overall experience dining here is quite good. You can choose to grill the meat yourself, or the staff will do it for you. They open until 2 a.m., which is ideal for late night dates. But, although there were a lot of banchan, the quantity of main grilled dishes may not sastify strong eaters.

GWAN DANG JIP Ho Chi Minh City Korean BBQ Restaurant - Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
Gwan Dang Jip sits at the end of a narrow alleyway off Thao Dien's main strip — an address that filters for people who came specifically for it. The dining room runs on booth-style seating beneath Jeju Island imagery, a décor choice that functions as a geographic shorthand for the cooking rather than a decorative theme. Banchan is handled seriously: a self-serve bar stocked with kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, Korean pancake, pickled radish, garlic, green chili, fresh lettuce, and perilla leaves, all free to refill throughout the meal. Staff manage the grill themselves, monitoring timing and doneness so the meat arrives ready to eat without leaving that work to the diner. Seafood soup anchors the heavier end of the menu — rich and warming across multiple accounts. The pineapple smoothie has accumulated its own following.
Sustaining a 4.9-star average across 1,101 Google reviews is a number that tends to require consistency rather than novelty, and what the reviews describe repeatedly is value: the banchan spread alone offsets a meaningful portion of the bill, and the main dishes are priced below comparable Korean BBQ elsewhere in the district. The kitchen runs until 2 AM every night of the week, which gives the restaurant a practical niche that most Thao Dien options don't occupy — it draws late groups who want a long, unhurried meal after other places have closed. The crowd skews toward small groups and families rather than quick turnovers. One practical note: the alley entrance makes car parking difficult; motorbikes are the sensible approach. A second branch operates in District 7 for those who find this location too far east.
Reviews
The spicy stir-fried octopus and bibimbap were very tasty. The bibimbap was a bit too soft, but overall the food was good. The panchan selection was generous.
This place is lowkey a hidden gem fr 🇰🇷🔥 The tteokbokki was perfectly spicy, the kimbap was fresh, and everything just hit different. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was chill enough for both hangouts and dates. Highly recommend if u love Korean food like me
yummy pork and nice tofu spicy soup with the staff happily grill the meat for you so that heals my soul after a monday cuz nobody wanna go to work duh
It is a fine place to eat Korean Pork BBQ, especially sliced frozen pork belly BBQ. Not all kinds of sliced frozen pork belly BBQ are the same. There is a special way to form the meat style. It needs to cut the fat quite much and bend it. Not scrolling it. This is the most important thing, not scrolling it when we freeze it. So the grilling part has to be grilled at one time. This is the point. Please remember it
