One of the best dining experiences I've had in Thảo Điền recently. What impressed me most wasn't just the food, but the passion and creativity behind every dish. Each plate felt thoughtfully crafted, with great attention to flavor, presentation, and locally sourced ingredients. The atmosphere is intimate, relaxed, and perfect for a date night or catching up with close friends. The team was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about the overall experience. It's always inspiring to see independent restaurants like OKRA pushing boundaries and creating something unique in Saigon's dining scene. Definitely a place I'll come back to, and one that I would happily recommend to friends looking for something a little different from the usual restaurant experience.

OKRA FoodBar - Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
OKRA FoodBar occupies a corner on Lê Văn Miến in Thảo Điền, operating exclusively for dinner and earning a Michelin Selected listing in 2025. The kitchen builds around Vietnamese flavor logic applied to broader technique—the phở bò tartare is the clearest example, distilling the spice architecture of the soup (cinnamon, star anise, cardamom) into raw minced beef served on crisp cassava chips. It is a precise, conversation-starting plate.
The menu rewards sharing across categories. Halong Pacific Oysters run as a two-hour all-you-can-eat promotion on Thursdays (360k per person), and the seafood thread continues with a tuna crudo built around tomato-dashi vinaigrette, tobiko, and allium oil, and an octopus risotto that draws consistent praise from regulars. The Thai grilled okra—the dish the name references—pairs tom yum with cashew-coconut pesto and dried shrimp. A street corn finished with brown bourbon butter and pork floss illustrates the kitchen's tendency to press familiar dishes one register further than expected.
The bar earns its own attention. The cocktail program draws specific mentions from first-time visitors, with staff noted for technical fluency and willingness to explain what's in the glass. Sake is available alongside the cocktail list.
The space is visually deliberate—high-contrast, photographed frequently—and the format suits celebrations: birthday groups appear regularly in reviews, and the sharing-plate structure keeps the table engaged across a full evening. The overall register sits above Thảo Điền's casual restaurant strip without requiring the formality of a tasting-menu room. Closed Tuesdays; Friday and Saturday service runs to 11 PM.

Amazing food, great drinks, and the loveliest staff! Absolutely loved the beetroot carpaccio and the noods. The service was so warm and welcoming. Highly recommend this hidden gem!
Very well-trained friendly staff (From chefs to bartenders) they all kinds to customers, and gently guide customers throughout dishes 10/10 foor food and cozy place. P/s: music mixtape here is really trendy too
When I first entered, I was immediately welcomed with genuine hospitality from Miss Duong. She truly understands what hospitality means. She stayed attentive throughout, thoughtfully guiding me to the best seating options. I also had the feeling that if I wanted to change seats at any time, she would be more than happy to assist. I was truly impressed by her level of care and professionalism. After reviewing the menu, Miss Duong helped me select dishes and wine that perfectly matched my taste. This is something I highly appreciate, as it is rare to find such dedication and attentiveness in the F&B industry today. After each course, the cutlery and plates were replaced in a very proper and professional manner. As for the food, I was particularly impressed by the creativity in seasoning. Initially, I assumed it would be similar to other restaurants, but I was genuinely surprised — the flavors were not what I expected. They were unique, distinctive, and truly captivating. The restaurant itself has a warm and cozy ambiance. The restrooms are exceptionally clean. The lighting is well-balanced — not too bright — creating a relaxed, chill atmosphere, enhanced by candles on the table. The background music and noise level are perfectly set, allowing for private and comfortable conversations. P/S: This is the underrated restaurant like a hidden gem
The dishes were good, though a bit salty for Vietnamese taste. You should definitely try the noodles—they were the highlight of the whole meal. The other dishes were okay but not very impressive. The service was excellent, and the staff were really friendly. I’ve come back many times because of this. Love it!
