The Story

About This Place

The 6ix Saigon occupies a compact, mural-covered space on a Thảo Điền side street, drawing a loyal international crowd with its Canadian-themed cocktail menu and weekend live music. The room is deliberately intimate — best seats are at the bar itself, where bartenders Sang and Tuan run the operation — with a small outdoor patio that extends capacity on good nights. Bar games are stocked throughout, and complimentary popcorn arrives without ordering.

Happy hour runs from 5:30 to 8pm, which makes this a popular starting point for evenings that continue elsewhere. The cocktail list leans creative without being precious: the Sang Special is the most-requested order, while the whiskey sour — built on Canadian whiskey — earns consistent praise for its calibration of citrus and sweetness. Pricing lands noticeably below comparable cocktail programs in District 1, and the happy hour window makes it genuinely affordable.

Live music plays on Friday and Saturday nights, and performers engage the crowd in a style that suits the scale of the room. The intimacy that limits groups larger than six or seven creates something useful for smaller parties: real conversation remains possible during sets, and the energy stays focused rather than diffuse. No food is served in-house, but the owners accommodate delivery orders, so groups can eat without leaving.

Closed Sundays. Monday through Saturday, doors open at 5pm and the bar runs to 1am — enough runway for a leisurely happy hour before the music starts.

Note, the story of The 6ix is rather complex. Used to be a low light, local dive jazz bar… until someone bought the whole building and turned it into a hotel. I’m not sure if it is for better or worse that the new owner decided not only to keep The 6ix and turn it - I’m not naming this up - into a hotel bar. Atmosphere ruined. Regular clientele lost. All in favor of tourists who stay in this kind of a hotel in order to SAVE money. If you can turn the blind eye on the fact that the whole east wall of The 6ix is now gone and is actually hotel lobby, well maybe The 6ix is still the right place for you. Even for one or two cocktails. And those are out of this planet… Go. Give it a try while the last mixing matter from the olden days is still there. I urge you?

Super cozy intimate small bar, it can be quite charming to go with your partner, otherwise it will be boring. They have live music on Friday night (maybe other nights as well).

A really cool hidden gem of a bar in D2. The drinks are quite creative and Canadian-themed, and we really enjoyed the popcorn while chatting. The drinks are good, and the price is reasonable. We came during happy hours so it was even cheaper. We couldn’t stay long enough to see the live performances but we’d totally come back to try other drinks and hear the music. Only drawback is that it’s quite small so if you’re in a large group there might not be enough seats.

This is an exceptional bar in Saigon. Awesome vibes, between the atmosphere/decor, service, cocktails, and live music. I tried 4 drinks and they were all delicious and artistically crafted. My favourite was the Montreal. Don’t miss out and make sure you check it out while in Saigon. Bonus: if you’re Canadian like me, you’ll enjoy the tributes to Canada like the drink names and more :-)
