The Story

About This Place

Mr. Pie occupies a small shophouse on Nguyễn Cừ with a handful of outdoor tables, a sofa corner, and vintage-style interior that leans more neighborhood bakery than polished café. What draws people back — some weekly, some every Sunday — is the pastry itself: a crust that arrives crunchy, holds together through the filling, and avoids going dense or greasy, wrapped around beef, pork, salmon, Phở Steak, or the Korean-inflected Bulgogi made with soy-sauce-marinated pork. The sausage rolls, available in beef, pork, and salmon and sold two per order, are the consistent bestseller across the menu, and reviewers specifically note they survive the delivery journey hot and intact.

Combos — a 120g or 250g pie paired with a drink, side, and pickle — are priced in a way that reads unusual for a Thao Dien address dominated by upscale cafés and international restaurants. Mashed potatoes with gravy anchor the plate on the savory side. The menu also extends into territory not common at Western-leaning bakeries nearby: gluten-free cloud bread, mini egg tarts, a CoBa tart made with coconut and banana, seasonal Christmas fruit pies packed with 10-plus varieties of fruit, and homemade tartar and honey mustard sauces produced in-house.

The clientele skews toward the expat community seeking something familiar — Australians in particular recognize the format — alongside local regulars who have made it a standing weekly habit. Staff are consistently mentioned for patiently walking first-timers through the options and explaining the menu. Packaging earns specific praise, which matters for a format that needs to travel.

For Thao Dien, well-supplied with brunch spots and European-style bakeries but thin on savory hand-held pastry done at this level, Mr. Pie fills a precise and underserved niche — at a standard the 4.9 rating across 278 reviews makes difficult to argue with.

Small and cozy bakery that specializes in Aussie meat pie. Pies are hot and fresh out of oven with reasonable price. I love the apple pie here. WORTH TRYING!! 😍😍

I ordered an Apple Pie (52k VND)and a mini Egg Tart (35K VND). The pie came out warm and smell delicous. The pastry was crispy, the filling had just enough sweetness. The egg tart was creamy with crispy pastry too. They are a must have this rainy season in Ho Chi Minh city.

Nice cozy café with a relaxing atmosphere. The food presentation was beautiful and the quality was good — especially the pie and iced coffee. Staff were friendly and the place is great for brunch or a quiet coffee break. Recommended if you’re looking for a calm café to relax.

I’m not usually into pie, but this place has a great one, and even the sauce was delicious. The staff were very helpful in explaining the options and helping me choose what to get. The packaging is also excellent, so it should hold up well for delivery too.

World class 👏🏻 kudos to the owner and staff. Everything was on point. 5/5. The price point is so good, the quality is so high. Thank you for keeping it affordable for locals even though it’s in a expat district. You’re doing God’s work. You’re making the world a better and brighter place with your pies.
