This place is a go-to sourdough place that I strongly recommend. I came here several times and I really loved it. My favorite is the tuna melt, this is a bomb. It tasted amazing with the crunchy sourdough with tuna and melted cheese. Also they offer free water which is nice. I like the atmosphere with natural light, it's a perfect spot for having brunch. The staffs are nice, they can communicate in english pretty well. Definitely come here next time

BARTELS Thao Dien - Sourdough Sandwiches, Coffee & Juicery - Brunch restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
BARTELS bakes its own sourdough daily and the bread is the point — thick-cut, soft in the crumb, and grilled to a parmesan-dusted crust on every sandwich. The menu spans two dozen options: the Grilled Cubano layers smoked free-range ham with housemade pickled jalapeños and mild cheddar; Reuben's Cousin stacks premium tenderloin corned beef with spiced sauce and mustard; the Thai Touch riffs on larb with sous-vide chicken, lime, chili, and mint pressed between sourdough slices. Sweet Ham Brie pairs free-range ham with brie and red onion chutney for something closer to a French croque.
Egg dishes hold their own alongside the sandwiches. Turkish Eggs arrives as poached eggs over Greek yogurt with crispy chili oil and micro greens. Smashed Avocado adds feta and pickled onions to the same base. Cold-press juices and smoothie bowls — the acai bowl draws repeat mentions across reviews — round out a menu that skews fresh without tipping into austere.
The room is bright and plant-forward, morning light carries easily through the interior, which draws a mix of expat residents, visiting tourists, and neighborhood regulars who settle in with laptops or bring larger groups for weekend catch-ups. Service moves efficiently even through the midday crowd.
Vegan options run throughout: the Grilled Vegan Cubano swaps in eggplant or vegan sausage; vegan cheese and pesto variants exist for the grilled cheese and Oh Sweet Tomato. Whole or half sourdough loaves are sold to take home. At 670 reviews averaging 4.7 stars, this is among the most consistently rated brunch spots along Thảo Điền street, with at least one Bangkok regular who visits both cities describing the quality as equivalent across locations.

Had a really great experience at BARTELS Thao Dien. The menu is surprisingly diverse with lots of offerings, from sourdough sandwiches to coffee, juices, and brunch options. Everything feels thoughtfully made. The drinks were especially impressive — very well balanced and refreshing, clearly made with quality ingredients. The sourdough was excellent too, fresh with that perfect texture and flavor that’s hard to find. The only downside is the space is a bit small, and it gets extremely packed, especially on weekends. Expect a crowd and possibly some waiting time. But honestly, the quality of the food and drinks makes it worth it. Definitely one of the better brunch and coffee spots in Thao Dien.
Super cute restaurant - worth every bit of hype - was super busy when we arrived but were given a table as soon as possible. The meals were so beautiful and put together. Everything tasted SO good and so fresh. All the staff were so so friendly and welcoming; we felt very well taken care, service was 10/10. Highly recommend :))
My friend and I recently visited Bartels after seeing quite a few ads about their sourdough bread, which made us curious enough to stop by and give it a try. Our first impression was that the menu is very well put together. Each item comes with clear photos and detailed descriptions of the ingredients, which makes it easy to understand what you’re ordering. Besides their sourdough sandwiches, the menu also offers a variety of drinks including coffee, matcha, tea, and fresh juices. A small but thoughtful touch we appreciated is that the counter provides free drinking water for customers. We ordered our food quite randomly without thinking too much, but both dishes turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The presentation was neat and visually appealing, showing that care was put into how the food is served. Flavor-wise, everything suited our taste really well. The ingredients felt carefully selected, and the balance between the sourdough bread and the fillings worked nicely. One downside, however, is the layout of the space. The hand-washing sink is located right outside next to the seatings. Even though it’s clean, it feels a bit awkward when you’re eating and someone is washing their hands right next to you. Another minor issue is that occasionally some smoke from the sandwich grill drifts into the seating area when fresh sandwiches are being toasted, which can make your clothes smell slightly after a while. Overall, it was still a pleasant experience, especially if you enjoy sourdough-based dishes and well-prepared, thoughtfully presented food
The café has a very lovely space, and every corner is perfect for photos. I only tried a sip of my sister’s smoothie, but it was surprisingly delicious – fragrant with a nicely balanced sweet and slightly tangy taste, very easy to drink. The food is healthy-style, so it feels light but still tasty. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Eating and taking photos here is definitely a 10/10. 🍓🥗📸
